The W3C International Web Content Accessibility Guidelines become an international guideline for website accessibility regulation.

The number of ADA Title III lawsuits filed in federal court in 2018 hit a record high of 10,163 – up 34% from 2017 when the number was a mere 7,663. This is by far the highest number of annual filings since we started tracking these numbers in 2013, when the number of federal filings was only 2,722. In other words, the number of cases has more than tripled.

Section 508 law is a requirement for federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Section 508 was originally added as an amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 in 1986.

What is A11y? A11y is another way of writing the word ‘accessibility’. It’s an abbreviated version for the Internet and social media world to make it easier to write.
‘A’ is the first letter; there are 11 letters in-between, and ‘y’ at the end. A11Y is what is known as a numeronym, somewhat similar to an acronym. Essentially, numbers are used in place of letters to achieve the desired result. You may be familiar with other numeronyms, such as “K-9” for “Canine” or “W3C” for “World Wide Web Consortium”.

Web Accessibility - Code or Plugin? Advantages and Disadvantages.
When a website owner wants to make the site accessible, he has to decide whether to make the site accessible in the source code or to use an external accessibility plugin. Defining disability -There are many kinds of persons with disabilities (PWD), including physical, sensory, hearing, mental health, developmental and learning. Disabilities can be visible or non-visible.
Any degree of physical disability, infirmity, malformation or disfigurement that is caused by bodily injury, birth defect or illness and, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, includes diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, a brain injury, any degree of paralysis, amputation, lack of physical co-ordination, blindness or visual impediment, deafness or hearing impediment, muteness or speech impediment, or physical reliance on a guide dog or other animal or on a wheelchair or other remedial appliance or device;

The new accessibility rules present a complex challenge even for experienced website owners. Not everyone is well-versed in the intricate laws and regulations, schedules, level of required accessibility and its efficient implementation.
