New Zealand Web Accessibility Laws

New Zealand enacted the Human Rights Act in 1993, which proscribes discrimination of individuals both by government and public agencies and private entities. The act does not specify accessibility for websites, but it could be seen as a general framework for non-discrimination and equal access that includes digital products.

The New Zealand Web Accessibility Standard (NZS 4121:2001) provides guidelines for accessible web design and aims to improve the accessibility of websites and digital content. Although NZS 4121:2001 is not a legally binding standard, it is widely recognized and followed as a best practice in the country.
