Connect EqualWeb to Shopify

EqualWeb scans, scores and remediates the PDFs in your Shopify store - catalogs, guides and product documents under Content → Files. Unlike the enterprise platforms, there is nothing to create in your cloud: install the EqualWeb app in one click and approve its permissions. That's all.

  • Store owner access, or Staff with app-management permission in the store
Step by step

The setup, start to finish

  1. Install the app

    1. Open the EqualWeb PDF Accessibility install link (app page in the Shopify App Store)
    2. Choose your store and click Install
  2. Approve the permissions

    1. Shopify will ask you to approve exactly two scopes: View files (read_files) - reading the store's PDFs for checking, and Manage files (write_files) - saving the accessible version back
    2. Click Install app - it appears in your store's Apps menu

Those are all the permissions. The app has no access to orders, customers or payment data - and you can remove it at any time from Settings → Apps and sales channels; the permissions die instantly.

  3. That's it - there is no Step 3 on the Shopify side

    1. No keys to create, no developer console, no cloud settings. The installation itself creates the secure connection (Shopify's OAuth), and the app runs inside your store admin

What permissions the app gets - and why

PermissionWhy it's needed
View files (read_files)Read the store's PDFs for accessibility checking
Manage files (write_files)Save the accessible version of each file back to the store

🔒 Store files are usually public - which is why they typically rank as high legal priority in classification.

Activate in EqualWeb

Go to login.equalweb.comPDF IntegrationShopifySettings, enter the values you collected, click Save and then Test connection.

From the moment you connect, EqualWeb automatically classifies every document by treatment priority - required for service, published to the public, internal, or archive - including public-exposure detection. In the Classification screen you can tag whole folders, exclude items (reversibly), and set an archive policy - and remediation is one click away.
