France Web Accessibility Laws. The main web accessibility law in France is the European Directive on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies, known as
EN 301549. France transposed the Directive into national law in 2019. Known as the Accessibility Act for a Digital Republic, it sets the legal framework for web accessibility in France and applies to public sector bodies, certain private sector entities, and online platforms.
The bill stipulates that public sector websites and mobile applications must comply with WCAG 2.1 AA level. Certain private sector entities, including those providing services of general interest, such as transportation, education, healthcare, and more, must also comply with the law.
The French government has issued a decree specifying the technical requirements for web accessibility, known as the Référentiel Général d`Amélioration de l`Accessibilité (RGAA). The RGAA aligns with
WCAG 2.1 and provides guidelines for implementing accessible digital services.
